Our first batch of piglets have arrived!
Reba gave birth to six happy, healthy piglets on
Monday, April 12. Mama and piglets are all doing
great and we should have butcher hogs from this litter in about six months.
We are now accepting deposits on half and
whole hogs. ($50 deposit per half hog). We expect hanging weights of approximately
75-100 lbs per side. How much should you buy? We're a family of seven (four adults, three teenagers) and we
eat two hogs a year.
Final Cost is $4.50/lb for half hog and $4/lb
if you buy both halves (whole hog).
Cut, wrap and kill fee will be paid directly to
the butcher. We recommend Silvana Meats or
Kelso's Kustom Meats. Expect approximately
$0.50/lb for cut and wrap plus $0.60/lb for any
cuts you have cured (i.e. bacon and ham)
Can't wait six months? Because Dolly the pig didn't become pregnant, we've decided to
purchase weaners from a local pig farm. We will feed them out on our GMO-free feed
for four months at which time they will be ready for butcher.
